Last updated: March 2026
Vice is an open-source game clipping tool for Linux designed to record and manage gameplay clips locally on your computer. This privacy policy explains what information Vice collects, how it is used, and how it is handled.
1. Data Collected by the Vice Application
The Vice application itself does not collect personal data or track users.
All gameplay clips, configuration files, and settings are stored locally on your device.
Vice does not send personal data, usage analytics, or gameplay clips to any central server operated by the developer.
Examples of data stored locally include:
Recorded video clips
Highlight markers
Application configuration settings
Clip names and metadata
This data remains on your system unless you choose to share it.
2. Clip Sharing
Vice allows users to generate public share links for clips.
Depending on configuration, this feature may use third-party networking tools such as:
Cloudflare Tunnel (
cloudflared)SSH tunneling services
When a share link is created:
the clip is served directly from your computer
anyone with the link may be able to access the clip
the developer of Vice does not host or store the video
Third-party services used to expose the link may process connection metadata according to their own privacy policies.
3. Network Activity
Vice may create temporary network connections when the sharing feature is enabled. These connections are used solely to allow others to view clips hosted from your machine.
Vice does not transmit personal data to the developer.
4. Website Data
If you visit the Vice website, basic information such as IP address, browser type, and request logs may be collected by the web hosting provider for standard security and operational purposes.
This data is not used for tracking individual users.
5. Open Source Transparency
Vice is an open-source project. The source code is publicly available and can be inspected to verify how the software works and what data it handles.
6. Children's Privacy
Vice is not directed toward children under the age of 13. The application does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Changes to This Policy
This privacy policy may be updated as Vice evolves. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date.
